Masks II

*Note* This page is graphics heavy, please give it time to load.

This is a really easy tutorial.  I have chosen something fun to make.  In this session, we are going to load our mask from the disk.

You will need Paint Shop Pro, and this zip file.  Just click here, save it to your hard drive, open the mask file and put it in your PSP mask folder.  In order to get there, click on My Computer, Program Files, Jasc Software, Paint Shop Pro.  If there is not a Mask folder there already, just make one and save your mask there.  The color picture is actually a gradient, but for this we need to have it open in PSP.

If you don't know how to load pictures in your Pattern box, go here for a mini tut.

OK, so we have everything ready, lets go.  Like I said, this is just a simple, fun little butterfly mask, but you follow every step in this that you would in any other mask that you would want to use.  Here is our finished graphic:

Open up a new image, 250 x 300, flood fill it black.

Add a New Layer.  Load your Styles Pattern box with the multicolored image and flood fill your new layer with it.

So now you have 2 layers, one solid black, and the top one multicolored.

Now go to Masks, Load from disk

This box will pop up, and just select the mask you want.  In this case, it is the butterfly.msk

Your butterfly will show up like this:

So we will go back to Masks, and Invert it.

Now our butterfly is more colorful.

But we need to go back to Masks and Delete the mask.

Which gives us a box asking if we are sure we want to merge the mask image with the layer beneath it.

Then we go to Layers, Merge, All (flatten)

This is all the steps to applying a mask, but we will continue with finishing our image.
