Birthday Button Tutorial

This is a very basic tutorial for someone who has never made anything with Paint Shop Pro. It assumes that you know nothing about PSP, and is very heavy with screen shots, so please allow the page(s) to fully load.

Supplies needed:

Win Zip, if you do not have it, you can get a trial version here.
Paint Shop Pro Version 8, or demo which you can download here.
A tube of your own, or you can use the one I am using,
just right click on the "zip" file above, unzip it with WinZip, and save it to your hard drive, but please do not change the name of it. I have already sized it so that it will fit on our button.

OK, lets get started!
There are two ways to open a new image.
1. Go to File, New, and the image below opens
2. Click on the white square just below File,

and the same image will open.

For this tut, please have your setting just as I have
in the picture above.  When you click on OK, this new image will appear.

You notice that it is transparent (with the grey and white squares)
But we want our button to be white. So we will "Pour"
the white onto the image with our flood fill tool.
First of all, we need to make sure we have the white color
showing in the top (Foreground) color box of our Materials palette.
Don't worry about the bottom (Background) box right now.

Right now it is red, so we need to right click on the
red box, and our Recent Materials selection will show up.

We want to left click on the little white square.

Now our Foreground color is white, so we
will be able to pour the white paint into our button.
If you cannot see your "paint can", click on the double
down arrows at the bottom of your tool bar.

That will bring up this picture, then just
click on the little paint can.

With each tool that you click on, the tool options palette
for that tool will show up. This is the settings you need
for using the flood fill tool for this project:

OK, now that we have our paint color selected, and our
paint can ready, just move your mouse cursor over your
empty image and right click on it. Walla, your button
is now white.
